Cable/DSL Modem Drops Connection
If your cable/DSL modem drops the internet connection, there is a few things you can try.
- Disconnect the power cord to the cable/DSL modem
- Disconnect the cable or phone line to the modem
- Wait 2 minutes
- Plug all cables back in the modem
- If the problem still exists, see if the manufacturer has an update for the modem (if it has the capability of an update)
- Try the modem on another computer (if you have another system available)
- If you have more than two computers in the network, you can
try the following
- Leave computer A and computer B connected
to router but disconnect all other computers
- Does the issue go away?
- If the issue did go away, either
- A computer that is currently disconnected from the router causing the issue or
- There is an issue with the router and it cannot handle all of the computers connected.
- If the issue did go away, either
- If the issue still exists
- Disconnect computer B and reconnect computer A
- Does the issue go away?
- If the issue did go away,
either
- A computer that is currently disconnected from the router causing the issue or
- There is an issue with the router and it cannot handle all of the computers connected.
- If the issue did go away,
either
- Does the issue go away?
- Leave computer A and computer B connected
to router but disconnect all other computers
- Contact your ISP to see if there is settings on their end or if they can determine if it is a bad modem
Note: If you replaced your cable modem, you will need to contact your internet provider. The modem has to be registered with them for it to work.
