Floppy drive seek failure

Do you get a message of a Floppy drive seek failure or similar message on boot up?

Do you have a floppy drive installed? If you don't, you need to disable the floppy drive in the bios. Click here for information on the bios

If you do have a floppy drive, the cable may be loose, have a disk in the floppy drive during boot up, bad cable, bad motherboard, or a bad drive. To troubleshoot, do the following

Read the Safety Procedures. Very Important!!!

  1. Push the eject button on the floppy drive.
    1. Did anything eject out?
      1. If a disk did come out, is the system working fine now?
        1. If nothing came out, look inside the drive, do you see a floppy in it?
          1. If you see a disk, the disk is jammed. You will need to replace the drive
        2. If it is working, then your done
          1. If it is not working, continue the next steps
  2. Use the Floppy drive troubleshooter
