Wrong Characters appear when you press a key on keyboard

When you press a key on the keyboard the wrong character appears. You may have the wrong keyboard selected.

Windows 9x Operating Systems

  1. Close all running programs.
  2. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  3. Double-Click Keyboard.
  4. Click Language.
  5. Click on whatever the Layout type currently is (e.g. Canadian International).
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Find United States 101 in the drop-down menu and select it.
  8. Click on OK.
  9. Click on OK again.
  10. Click on Start
  11. Click on Shutdown
  12. Click on Restart
  13. Click on OK.
  14. Close all running Programs
  15. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  16. Double-click on keyboard.
  17. Click on Language.
  18. Click on Add
  19. Find English (United States) in the drop-down menu and select it.
  20. Click on OK.
  21. Make sure the other language is highlighted and click on Remove button. Repeat until only English (United States) is remaining.
  22. Click on OK.
  23. At this point you may see the following message: "Windows could not remove (Incorrect language) because one of your programs is currently using it. It will be removed next time you start windows. Do you want to continue?"
  24. This is normal, Click Yes
  25. Close all programs
  26. Click on Start
  27. Click on Shutdown
  28. Click on Restart.
