Volume control missing by clock

When you try to put the check in Place volume icon in the taskbar under Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel, you get the following message...

Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

You may need to install the SNDVOL32. To do this, follow one of these options

 

Download the Sound Volume Utility

Click here to go to the download page of the utility. This will replace the file for you.

 

Manually replace the sndvol32.exe file

If the utility does not work or you want to manually replace it, follow these steps.

  1. Put your windows CD in the CD-ROM drive
  2. Open Command Prompt (Page will open in a separate window)
  3. Type #: (Substitute the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive that your CD is in for the #, for example....  D:, or E: so forth)
  4. Press Enter
  5. Type CD I386
  6. Press Enter
  7. Type expand -r sndvol32.ex_ %system root%\system32
  8. Press Enter

Note: there is a space between expand and the -r. There is a space between -r and sndvol32.ex_. There is a space between sndvol32.ex_ and %systemroot%

Now you should be able to install the sound control on the taskbar by the clock. To do this, do the following

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices
  3. Place a check in Place volume icon in the taskbar
  4. Click on OK

 

If there is already a check there then do the following

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices
  3. Uncheck Place volume icon in the taskbar
  4. Click on OK
  5. Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices
  6. Place a check in Place volume icon in the taskbar
  7. Click on OK
