PC Card Troubleshooter

Saving the data is the sole responsibility of the customer. Troubleshooting a problem on a system can be nerve racking. There is numerous possibilities of what is causing the problem. The best way to find the source of the problem, is to remove everything you can and if the problem goes away, then add one item back at a time.

The number of PCI slots varies with the type of motherboard that you have. The number of PCI slots varies from one to six slots.

If you are having a problem with a PCI card or having a problem with another device, try the following steps to see if the problem is the PCI cards, or the motherboard. (Depending on the problem that you are having, some steps may not be applicable to your situation). If that is the case, then just skip the step.

  1. Before troubleshooting there is specific questions you need to answer Click here for the questions.

  2. Remove all PCI cards, and leave the video card in. (if you are being redirected from another troubleshooter, this step may have already been done).

  3. Boot to safe mode (if you are able to boot to safe mode)

  4. Go to Add/Remove Programs.

  5. Is your Sound card, Modem or network card listed here? If so remove them.

  6. go to Device Manager (This will open in a different window).

  7. Delete any PCI cards that is listed ( Modem, Sound card, network, firewire card, or any other PCI card. Leave the video card alone)

  8. Set BIOS to default and clear NVRAM. 

  9. Use the Software Troubleshooter.

Did the problem go away?
