Estimated time for service

(The times are only an estimation. These times are for individual tasks with no complications.

  • CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM install - 15 to 30 minutes

  • Modem, sound card, Video card and other PCI cards - 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Memory - 15 minutes

  • Motherboard - 30 minutes to an hour

  • Hard drive (without Software install) - 15 to 30 minutes

  • CPU/Processor - 15 minutes

  • Power Supply - 15 to 30 minutes

  • Hard drive (with start of operating system install only) - 30 to 45 minutes

  • Hard drive (with Operating system install and drivers) - One and a half hours to two and a half hours (see note below)

  • Software - 5 minutes to an hour and a half (times vary depending on the software and how many to be installed, but average time is 5 to 30 minutes per software )

  • Operating System install - One and a half hours to two and a half hours (see note below)

  • Peripherals - 15 minutes average but there is numerous peripherals available so unable to say specifics without knowing the item.

  • Troubleshooting - 15 minutes to several hours

Note: Troubleshooting times vary with the issue that you are having. Hardware is easier to troubleshoot than software normally. Depending on the issue and the steps involved, the times can vary. This can be cheaper at my location depending on what needs to be done.

Here is some examples of what is involved in troubleshooting and why it can take time

  • Running diagnostics - can take 5 minutes to several hours to run (Can't run anything else while it runs)

  • Checking, limiting, and/or reinstalling software or drivers. - can take 5 minutes to hours depending on the issue.

  • Intermittent issue - Might have to wait for the issue to happen again (especially if a fix is attempted for an intermittent issue)

  • Operating System reinstall  (Used as last resort and will check with customer first) - Overall process can take 2 to 3 hours.

  • Numerous steps and/or procedures - One troubleshooting step may require a different step or procedure done first.

Computer Parts

I do no sell computer parts. If it is determined that you have a bad part, you will have to get the part at a vendor (example, computer store, department store, internet) (See note as to why below). During troubleshooting, it is determined that you need a part, I will come back when you have the part and install it for free (if that is the only issue you are having. Sometimes (such as a no P.O.S.T.  issue) you may have more than one issue and will not know about other issues till the No P.O.S.T. is solved. However you still will not pay for the install of the part, only the troubleshooting.)

Click here for information about P.O.S.T and possible No P.O.S.T. or No boot causes.

Note: I don't sell parts due to creditability issue. How many times have you taken your car to a garage for them to tell you that you need a part and then you wonder if you really need the part or is the guy trying to just sell you a part. Since I don't sell parts, I don't make money telling you that you need a part. Therefore, I have nothing to gain by telling you that you need a part.

If you would like to pay me to buy the part at a local store or on an internet site, I will be glad to do that. There is no fee for this service. You will only pay me for the cost of the part. For example, if you need a modem and you want me to buy it from Wal-mart for $30, then you provide me with the $30 and the applicable taxes. I will get the part and give you the receipt.

There is a two day warranty on the service. I do not warranty the parts replaced, only the service. The warranty for the parts are from the manufacturer or store.
