Tip Ten

If you loose or damage your program discs, the manufacturer will not replace the disc for free. Some might charge a minor fee where others require you to pay for the full cost of the program. If your program is expensive (such as Office that can cost up to $500 or more), it can be costly to replace the CD.

You should create an .iso image of the program CD. Then save it in two different locations, such as a hard drive and a DVD or on two different hard drives. This way if one dies, you have the image on another.

If you loose or damage your program disc, you can burn the .iso image to a disc and you will have another program disc to replace the broken or lost one.

Tip Eleven

People like sending jokes, comments, pictures and other things that they think others will like. That is great but then the email gets forwarded, then forwarded again and again. You end up have rows and rows of addresses and subjects you have to scroll past to get to the email (that is if all the forwards are on the same page) Sometimes when email gets forwarded it gets sent as an attachment. Another words, if Mary sent an email to John. John forwards the email from Mary to Steve. Steve gets the email Mary sent as an attachment. Steve then forwards the email he gets from John to Bob. Bob gets it as an attachment also. For Bob to read the original message that Mary sent, Bob has to open the email that John sent. He then has to open the attachment from Steve. He then has to open the attachment from Mary. That is many steps you have to go through to read an email. Many people will delete the email without reading it because they don't want to have to open so many windows. Also some people are afraid to open attachments in fear of getting a virus.

If you have an email that you want to forward to others, copy the contents of the email to another email and then send it. It will be much cleaner. If for some reason it won't copy and paste into another email and you have to forward it, delete all the headers so they won't have to scroll past all the headers.

Tip Twelve

If you want to use an auto respond email to alert others that you are not available, so they won't wonder why you haven't responded, you can. However using an auto-response email has risks for using it at home. If you state in your auto-response email that you are gone on vacation or not at home for x amount of time, it will let everyone know your home is not occupied and may entice someone to break into your home while you are away.

You may want to use something like this on your auto-response

"I am unavailable to access my mail due to technical difficulties and will not be able to access my email for x amount of time. As soon as my issue has been resolved, I will respond"

That will be a lie but yet it is the truth. If you are away from your email it is a technical difficulty because the difficulty will be not able to access your email. Your friends and family will know the truth but others won't.

You should also use this for voicemail and answering machines at home. You should say your not able to get to the phone but not say your not at home.

Tip Thirteen

This tip doesn't apply to computers but I thought it is an excellent tip and decided to include it.

Unfortunately, the world is a dangerous place. It is recommended for parents to fingerprint their children and other identifying procedures in the event they are kidnapped or lost.

Majority of people have cell phones with cameras on them. Whenever you leave the house with your kid, take a picture of your child with the camera.

If they turn up missing and you need to tell the police what your child looks like and what your child was wearing, you can show them exactly what your child looks like and what they are wearing. It is faster and more accurate.

Look at it this way, if you never need the pictures for security, you will have them for keepsake purposes.

Tip Fourteen

When you are in a forum, do not post your email address. Spammers will get it and slam you with junk mail. If you do decide to post your email address, use an email address you don't mind getting tons of junk and don't use your main email address. You can create numerous free email accounts, so you can create one just for times you need to post an email address.

Tip Fifteen

People use their history as part of their passwords. This is very dangerous because hackers can usually find out about your history and use it against you. Click here for suggestions on a password.
