How to open a PST file

If you have an existing PST file that you want to open up in Outlook, do the following

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click File
  3. Click Open
  4. Click Outlook Data File
  5. Browse to the location that you have the PST file at
  6. Select the PST file
  7. Click Open

Here is a short list of default locations the PST file is located at (It can be in a different location. Also if the user moved the PST, it will be in a different location)

  • %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook\

  • %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook\

You should back up your PST file in the event of a system crash or virus. (if you have more than one profile on the computer, you will need to backup the data on more than one location)
